Government Plans for Canadian Retirements: Why Action is Required and How We Can Win

Are the proposed costs of the new CPP increasingly unsustainable? Are they the answer to retirement security for Canadians?

Dan Kelly, President, Canadian Federation of Independent Business, will have a lot to say about that at the Distinguished Advisor Conference (DAC), Nov 6 – 9 in San Diego, and about what advisors and their clients need to consider in light of anticipated changes to the CPP.

We now know some of the costly details. New Federal Finance Minister, Bill Morneau, has given his personal commitment not only to reach a deal in 2016 to raise CPP premiums, but also to introduce legislation.

The questions to be discussed between advisors and clients include: Are these the best options for you? How will these changes affect small-business owners, staffing and the potential for layoffs?  How will employees recover from increased premiums and potentially decreased work hours? How will the proposed changes affect private savings for retirement?

What will the fallout be for the financial services industry as Canadians ante up more of their after-tax income into mandatory government plans? Will the investment business slow? Can we still push back, or is it too late?

Dan will help you to think about, and find the answers to, all these important questions in his dynamic session. If you are focused on retirement planning, your clients will want to know your views and how you can help them to plan for these changes.

Early registration opportunities are still available for the Distinguished Advisor Conference until September 30, but please remember that seating is limited. “We highly recommend that students and graduates of the MFA-Retirement and Estate Services Specialist program come to this ground-breaking educational conference this year,” says Evelyn Jacks, President of Knowledge Bureau, and founder of DAC. “It’s a time of great change, and outstanding speakers like Dan Kelly will prepare you to lead and soar higher with your value proposition.”

In Dan’s session, you will also learn about advocacy opportunities: what can you do to make your voice heard and advocate for your concerned clients. You will also find out what to expect from the new federal government on other key issues, such as the small-business corporate tax rate, employment insurance and the Canada Revenue Agency.

“We are looking forward to getting an update on this important topic with Dan Kelly, November 6 – 9 in San Diego, California,” adds Ms. Jacks. “Please join us to address the theme, Soar Higher: Plan for your Greater Potential.”
