U.S. Tax Reform: What’s the Impact on Canadian Taxpayers?

A new study shows that leaders in the accounting field are feeling uncertain about the future of Canada’s economy and the recent U.S. tax reforms that are cited amongst the major contributing factors. At this year’s CE Summits, one of Canada’s most prolific cross-border tax experts will address the core tax issues that affect Canadian taxpayers and how tax and financial advisors can tackle them.

The study, commissioned by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada), reflects the common opinion that Canada’s competitiveness is declining. Sixty seven percent of respondents state their belief that this country is a less lucrative place to invest and do business than it was a year ago. In addition, 84 percent also believe that a detailed analysis of the U.S. tax reforms and their impact to Canada is urgently needed.

“These statistics support just how important it is that professional advisors in Canada remain up to speed on the implications of the U.S. tax reforms,” says Evelyn Jacks, President of Knowledge Bureau. At the Summits, Evelyn will cover the most important Canadian tax changes for 2018, including audit-proofing tips, and a full session of training with cross-border tax experts Dean Smith and C. Russel Vert of Cadesky Tax. They will touch on issues such as:

  • The impact of U.S. reforms on residency and filing requirements
  • The impact on Canadians investing in the U.S.
  • How changes to the U.S. subpart F rules will affect planning for Canadian private companies
  • Planning strategies for working with Canadian professionals who own U.S. shares

Register for the CE Summits before the May 15 deadline! Full-day workshops are being offered in Winnipeg on May 29, Calgary on May 30, Vancouver on May 31 and Toronto on June 6.
