Trees Win: Electronic Filers 85%; Paper Filers 15%

CRA’s push to get Canadians to file their tax returns electronically has been extremely successful this year, driving a million more tax filers to use EFILING services with a professional and a million more to use NETFILING.

So far, just over 21 million tax returns have been assessed with 12 million using the EFILE Services, 6 million using NETFILE, and only 3.2 million using paper.

Last year just over 27 million tax returns were filed. Canadians have until June 15 to file returns for unincorporated small businesses. It’s a good idea to file sooner if you owe money, however, as the interest clock started to tick on May 1. Interest payable on balances due is currently 5%.
