Time to Learn Tax Preparation? Canadian Income Tax is 100 Years Old This Month

The 100th anniversary of personal income tax is coming up on September 20! On that day in 1917, The Income War Tax Act received Royal Assent, heralding in the first personal income taxes in Canada. Perhaps it’s high time you tackled the challenge and mastered the tax return and all it’s nuances? It’s an investment that could really pay off for you.

This 1917 legislation was set in motion to financially support Canada’s war efforts, when more than 100,000 additional men were called into active military service.  Ever in search of the broad ideals of the perfect tax system — neutrality, equity, simplicity and compliance — today Canadians are facing yet another tax reform; advisors need to understand what is important about this latest move and how it will impact family wealth over the longer term.

To celebrate this important economic milestone in Canada — 100 years of income taxation — our September 20th issue of the Knowledge Bureau Report will give you more history on how our tax system has evolved over the last century into what it is today.

In the meantime, another deadline is coming up to encourage you to pick up on a personal challenge: add taxation to your value proposition. The final summer school session for our self-study program is coming up on September 15. To make it easier for you to jump in and master the skill of providing personal tax services Knowledge Bureau is pleased to unveil a brand new course offering, a new Lite Course called Introduction to Personal Tax Preparation.
