On January 17, Canada lost a great philosopher and keen observer of Canadian Income Tax System.
Comedian Don Harron, (whose well-recognized on stage alter ego was Charlie Farquharson), passed away at age 90.
Most tax professionals are aware that it was philosopher Benjamin Franklin that wrote the famous words that still ring true to this day: “…in this world, nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes.” These famous words were written in a letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy, dated November 13, 1789, describing the new constitution, for the new country of the United States of America.
It was the ever philosophic Charlie that opined: “True, there is nothing certain but death and taxes… but at least death doesn’t keep getting worse each year!”
Rest in Peace, Don. Thank you for your wit and humor.
Tax season in Canada may not be quite as much fun anymore!
