Relationship Management: Advisory Can Help Feuding Couples

A recent Fidelity Investment report points out that debt is one of the biggest issues that drives couples apart, with 36 percent saying that money is their biggest marital hurdle. But many couples also struggle to communicate about financial matters that could lead to repercussions down the road. The help of astute tax and financial advisors is critical.

Four out of ten couples surveyed don’t agree on when they should retire, and how much they need to save. One in seven can’t accurately describe their spouse’s employment status.

With so many couples struggling with these issues, it’s up to you as their trusted provider of holistic wealth management advice to guide them through these important discussions. Ultimately, the answers should form the root of your Real Wealth Management Strategy. Real Wealth Management (RWM) isn’t simply about the money, the product or the plan. It’s about creating and managing inter-advisory and intergenerational relationships with clients to make the best decisions in meeting the family financial goals.

Expand on these skillsets by enrolling in the RWM Designation Program:

  • Acting as the primary advisor through a strategic process of decision making
  • Listening for the client’s life and financial triggers
  • Using the “Four RWM Elements”: accumulation, growth, preservation, and transition
  • Managing a team of specialists to provide expertise for financial solutions
  • Implementing the RWM strategy on an efficient after-tax, after-cost basis with all stakeholders
  • Analyzing financial data expertly and consistently over time to meet financial milestones
  • Reviewing and adjusting the strategy and process to meet ongoing client objectives
