Know Your Client: Can We Improve on the Risk Profiling Process?

Are you providing an evidence-based and unbiased determination of your clients’ risk profile? Unsure? Be sure to register for DAC 2016 to hear Shawn Brayman speak about why this is critically important.

This year’s Distinguished Advisors Conference will be held November 6-9 in San Diego, California,  and early registration opportunities are still available, but only until June 30.

Shawn Brayman is the founder and president of PlanPlus Inc., a private Canadian company that has specialized in providing investment planning and financial planning solutions to financial advisors for more than 25 years. Shawn is also lead author of the definitive research review of global best practices for risk profiling and “know your client,” combining academic research with practical experience from working with thousands of advisors and firms worldwide.

Determining a consumer’s “risk profile” is the legal, professional obligation of the financial advisor and the firm they are licensed through. To soar higher, you need to demonstrate that you are not only arriving at an appropriate determination of each client’s risk profile, but also that your methodology is consistent and defensible.

Shawn’s presentation will help you to learn:

  • How to come up with the best ways of understanding the contributing factors in a “risk profile”: risk tolerance, risk capacity, need, composure and more. How are these communicated to get informed consent from your client?
  • How to determine whether your clients can live with the downside and the time it takes for markets to come back up? Alternatively, whether they can live with a reduced likelihood to achieve financial goals.
  • How to determine what a best practices tool looks like to meet your professional and fiduciary duties.

“We are looking forward to thinking afresh about this important topic with Shawn, November 6-9 in San Diego, California,” says Evelyn Jacks, President of Knowledge Bureau. “He will join 18 leading speakers addressing the theme, Soar Higher: Plan for your Greater Potential.”
