Evelyn Jacks

Twice named to the Top 25 Most Influential Women in Canada, Evelyn Jacks is one of Canada’s most prolific financial authors of 55 personal tax and finance books, many of them bestsellers.

She is a noted speaker on tax and financial issues and national commentator on federal/provincial budgets and elections, appearing regularly on regional and national media outlets including BNN, CBC, CTV and Global news.

She is invited to write articles and blogs for national websites and media including the TMX Money site, Moneysense Magazine and the Globe and Mail’s Globe Advisor. She also appears regularly on national and province-wide radio to provide commentary and insights on federal and provincial elections, budgets, economic and financial issues of concern to Canadians.

Evelyn has been a catalyst and champion for tax and financial literacy through lifelong learning. Evelyn was appointed by Canada’s Finance Minister to the Federal Task Force on Financial Literacy. She also co-founded the Manitoba Financial Literacy Forum in partnership with the Manitoba Securities Commission to increase financial literacy in the province of Manitoba.

As Founder and President of Knowledge Bureau, Evelyn has built the only multi-disciplinary educational institute to provide tax, accounting, bookkeeping and financial advisors a world class financial education leading to professional credentials and continuing professional development. By designing and developing online learning programs, publishing and learning platforms - 30 years before the 2020 pandemic - Evelyn has been a knowledge innovator throughout her career.


Doug Nelson

Douglas Nelson is the 2nd generation President of Nelson Financial Consultants, an independent financial advisory firm based in Winnipeg, with its origins dating back to 1966.  The firm specializes in providing fee for service financial planning, custom discretionary portfolio management and insurance.  Doug is also the author of Master Your Retirement, How To Fulfill Your Dreams with Peace of Mind.  Doug is a 29-year veteran of the financial services industry, is a registered portfolio manager, is a regular commentator on industry initiatives and an accomplished speaker at industry events.  Doug, and his team, are a group of 7 people who serve clients collaboratively using well defined processes that follow the Real Wealth Management methodology.


Philippe Richer

Philippe’s career in law began later in life.  After high school, he joined the Armed Forces where he served 8 years.  Then, following his service, he worked in sales for twelve years. It wasn’t until his own marriage came to an end and he experienced a divorce, that he felt compelled to be a positive part of the legal industry; someone more approachable, accessible and affordable.

He started his career in law as a defense lawyer and appeared in all levels of Manitoba courts.  In 2014, he acquired the practice of Denis Labossière in St-Boniface and went on to acquire four other practices since.  He is now president and managing partner of TLR Law and Estate Attorneys of Manitoba (web page).  He, with his spouse Cheryl, now manage a team of 14 with three offices in Winnipeg offering legal services to Winnipeggers in the areas of real estate, corporate commercial, and estate planning and administration.
Philippe has served on the board of the Association des juristes francophones du manitoba (AJEFM), and the Francophone Chamber of Commerce of St-Boniface in Manitoba where he is currently past president as well as several other community organizations.

Philippe is the original author of the certificate Business Law Course in the Executive Business Builder Program offered by the national educational institute, Knowledge Bureau.


Daren Heyland

Dr Daren Heyland is a native of Lethbridge, Alberta who graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from University of Alberta in 1989. He subsequently received his training in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Clinical Epidemiology from McMaster University.  For most of his professional career, he worked at Kingston General Hospital and Queen’s University where he is still a Professor of Medicine.

For over a decade, he chaired a multidisciplinary research group which has had a focus on developing and evaluating strategies to improve communication and decision-making at the end of life. The results of their research informed the development of 2 novel, free, online decision support tools: www.planwellguide.com and www.myicuguide.com. His current focus is disseminating awareness of these planning tools. His motto is “To live well, die well, you need to plan well!”
