How to Receive a Grant of Up to 75% Training Costs

Thinking of enrolling employees for training this fall?  The Canada-Manitoba Job Grant will begin accepting applications July 24! But the grants go quickly so apply now if you are interested in enrolling employees in Knowledge Bureau training programs.  Up to $10,000 per individual can be received.  The grants are available in other provinces too, but with varying deadline dates. Details below:

How much can be received?   Up to 75% of training costs to a maximum of $10,000 per participant for companies with 100 or fewer employees.  Larger companies can apply for up to 50%.  There is a company maximum of $100,000.

Who is an eligible training participant?  That’s a Canadian resident or permanent resident of Canada and the grants may be obtained for fulltime, part-time and seasonal employees, so this is perfect for tax preparation, bookkeeping and accounting offices.

This also a perfect option for employees who reside in another province but work in Manitoba or for refugees, provincial nominees and immigrants who are permitted to stay and work in Canada. Temporary foreign workers, those with student visas, volunteers or subcontractors hired by the company are not eligible.

Are the grants taxable?  Yes. Any grants received must be included in income by the employer receiving the grant.  However, this income will be offset by the deduction for the expense of the training.

Can training have already started? Yes.  Eligible training dates include training that began on or after April 1, 2024 and ends on or before March 31, 2025.

What other provinces participate? The Canada Job Grant is a collaborative program between the federal and provincial governments designed to assist employers and employees in developing skills for success. The program is available in most provinces.

Each province does have its own criteria for applying for the program. Manitoba’s can be reviewed here.  The following links provide details of the program for each participating province. Check out the Funding page on our website for the most current updates to this list.
