How much can I claim for the Children’s Arts Amount?

Your refund can grow by up to $75 with this federal tax credit.

You’ll save 15% of every dollar you pay, up to a maximum of $500 (up to $1,000 if your child is disabled).

This credit covers costs of participation in artistic, cultural, recreational or developmental activities, for example, enrolling children in literary, visual and performing arts, or music or language lessons. Costs of instruction, equipment, uniforms, facility rental and administration costs included in the registration or membership fees will qualify.

The program must last at least eight consecutive weeks if it is a weekly program, or in the case of children’s camps, it must last at least five consecutive days.

Expenses not allowed are fees paid for programs that are part of a regular school curriculum, nor are costs for travel, meals, and accommodation.
