Graduate in the News – Meezan Shariff

Meezan Shariff is a student at Knowledge Bureau currently working toward her DFA – Bookkeeping Services Specialist™. Recently, we had a chance to ask her a few questions about how she felt about the courses she’s completed, what they did for her, and her overall experience. Friendly and upbeat, she was more than happy to give us a few minutes of her time.

How would you tell your Knowledge Bureau story to a friend? “I found out about Knowledge Bureau through my IPBC (Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada) membership. I kept going back to the Knowledge Bureau website to see some options and researched for a year or more before finally taking the leap. I also looked at some of KB’s associated companies and what they had to say about KB and their relationship with KB.”

Why did you decide to take a KB course? “I was interested in it for a while. My initial hesitation was cost but my research intrigued me, and the courses turned out to be exactly what I was looking for.”

What did you find difficult? “Some of the quizzes’ wording can be tricky so you really have to read carefully and pay attention to detail.”

Did anything surprise you in the courses? “Yes, the Evergreen notes. The explanations provided helped a great deal, especially in the payroll course. I’ve taken a lot of courses elsewhere, and, wow! This is such a valuable research component.”

How did you feel when taking the courses? “The first course gave me a refresher and the second course was empowering.”

What did your family think about the amount of time spent? “It hasn’t impacted my family life because the flexibility of the course allowed me to fit it into my schedule.”

Were you happy with the outcomes? “Definitely. The courses have built up my confidence and the Evergreen notes were so full of information. The content was far better and more comprehensive than other courses I’ve taken. I enjoyed the fact it was more detailed and had case studies that solidified how to implement what I learned into practice.”

What are your future goals? “I’m finishing my DFA – Bookkeeping Services Specialist™ Designation and then I’m interested in learning more about taxes. My goal is to boost my career and confidence, and to move up the ladder at work.”

What is the glimpse of wisdom you can share with our readers? “If you’re looking at courses and thinking, ‘I don’t know,’ you should still definitely do it. It gives you a solid foundation. Make sure you actually read the journal and notes. Practice the examples in the notes and journal. And KB’s support has been excellent. Kelly Malloy is an awesome educational consultant.”
