Grad Spotlight – Siegfried Merten, MFA

Siegfried Merten earned his MFA Designation in 2008 and has remained active with Knowledge Bureau as faculty member and Distinguished Advisor Conference attendee. We are pleased to have Siegfried as one of our distinguished grads.

Meet Siegfried Merten:

Siegfried Merten is the President of Merten Financial Inc. based in St. Catharines, Ontario which provides tax and accounting services to individuals and businesses as well as individualized tax planning strategies. He is also an expert on German pension recipient’s tax laws and requirements and has been consulting as well as preparing German Tax returns for accountants, tax preparers, and pension recipients from all over Canada.

Having come to Canada as a small child in the late '50s at the age of 9 he did his first tax return for his parents who could not read or write English. He returned to Germany for a 3 year stretch in the '70s and '80s, is very active in the German Community and has served as President and Treasurer of Club Heidelberg.

He has recovered 1,000s of Euros from the Finanzamt Neubrandenburg for pensioners of wrongfully paid taxes to Germany. He has also recovered 1,000s of dollars from CRA for any double taxation of the German pension amounts.

Siegfried continually writes articles for newspapers to update pensioners on the subject. He has spoken at tax seminars and conventions to inform and update attendees on what their German Pension recipients should be aware of and what to expect.
