Fort Mac Residents: The Love Keeps Pouring In

With Fort McMurray residents slowly returning home to rebuild, Knowledge Bureau is pleased to make a donation of $11,250 on behalf of its students and staff.  In addition, CRA announced special taxpayer relief for victims.

Knowledge Bureau pledged to help with a financial donation of $5000 plus $50 for each student attending its Distinguished Advisor Workshop tour, which ended May 31. Thank you all for supporting the workshop tour and helping us give back to help. Our donation of $11,250 will be forwarded this month to the Canadian Red Cross.

Meanwhile, CRA is continuing to accept requests for taxpayer relief from victims of the fires.  According to their website, these requests can be initiated by phone, mail or online to enable the relief CRA is providing effective May 6:

  • All collections, audit-related activities and administrative correspondence were discontinued.
  • All penalties/interest charges were cancelled for those who are unable to file their tax return or pay amounts owing.
  • Designated telephone agents are available to request taxpayer relief on behalf of residents and provide advice relating to lost, destroyed or damaged records. For information, individuals can call 1-800-959-8281; business owners can call 1-800-959-5525.
  • Canada Post will ensure that taxpayers expecting a tax refund or benefit payment have secure access to their mail following the suspension of delivery to Fort McMurray. Taxpayers can visit Canada Post service alert webpage for more information.
