Deadline in Ontario for retail sales tax rebates and refunds

If you qualify for a rebate or refund under Ontario’s Retail Sales Tax (RST) the deadline for applications is fast approaching.

When Ontario moved to the federally administered Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) in July 2010, a number of refund and rebate programs under the former RST were wound down. If you are claiming a RST refund or rebate, the Ontario Ministry of Finance must receive all completed applications and supporting documentation by Dec. 31, 2012. The Dec. 31 deadline does not apply to applications for refunds or rebates of RST paid in respect of insurance premiums and private transfers of used vehicles.
