Changes Begin in July: DAC Enhances New Value Proposition

The Distinguished Advisor Conference agenda, has just been released, chocked full of opportunities to build knowledge and business skills and earn valuable continuing professional development accreditation:  check it out for yourself and learn more about the 19 thought leaders who will inspire you!

July 15 marks the start of the third phase CRM2:  full disclosure of fees and detailed account performance will grace the annual reports to investors.  Value propositions will be under new scrutiny; which makes this year such a great one for top advisors to build strategically and improve personally.

Unprecedented in terms of quality, breadth and expertise, the new theme for DAC has been crafted for the unique San Diego location:  SOAR HIGHER – Plan for Your Greater Potential.

You may remember the movie Top Gun, where the cream of the crop of US Navy pilots go to school and train intensively to become the best of the best.   This is your chance to follow in their path at Knowledge Bureau’s Distinguished Advisor Conference (DAC), and hone your professional skills with 200 leaders from the financial services.  The educational value is outstanding, and there’s lots of room for networking with colleagues and peers as well as rubbing shoulders with the speakers themselves.

DAY 1 THEME: FORTY THOUSAND FOOT VIEWS.  Understand the cutting edge global trends that affect your industry and focus on the new opportunities big industry disruptors bring to you. Knowledge Bureau founder and president, Evelyn Jacks, one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Women, will bring laser-like focus to the Top Ten Disruptors in Tax and Financial Services and share strategies for how to manage them to your advantage.

Dr. Jack Mintz, a recent recipient of the Order of Canada and one of Canada’s foremost public policy experts, will bring his high-level perspective to the changing tax and economic landscape in Canada and around the world, showing delegates how to provide really good advice by Thinking Boldly.

Rounding the first powerful day are three more dynamic presenters:

  • John Natale, AVP Tax & Retirement Services at Manulife Financial, shares secrets on the single largest untapped potential market for Canadian advisors:  corporate investors.
  • Dan Kelly, President of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business and one of Canada’s most vocal and effective voices for small business, reports on government plans for the Canadian retirement system and pensions, and the impending dog-fight over mandatory funding of retirement benefits and its potential effect on hiring in small businesses.
  • Brent Gleeson, a real former Navy SEAL (who started out in the world of finance), will inspire the audience to create elite, high-performance teams and a culture of “extreme ownership.” If this combat veteran doesn’t motivate you to soar higher, no one will!

DAY TWO THEME:  OUTSTANDING VALUE PROPOSITIONS.  It’s is all about becoming a Top Gun yourself, with presentations that focus on how you can create even more outstanding value propositions in your financial or tax practice, for your clients.

Cecil Baldry-White, CEO of Alitis Investment Counsel starts the day off, lining up in his crosshairs the six major challenges faced by wealth advisors and a new multi-asset investment paradigm to meet them head on.

Barbara Foy-Pilchner, Vice President, National Accounts, Manulife Financial, looks ahead to the practice of the future:   what do the next Top Guns have that will build their business to unprecedented levels of success, particularly  with the “millennial herds” who will need financial advice in the next five to ten years?  You’ll find out from Two Outstanding Top Guns - this year’s recipients of the DAC’s Distinguished Young Advisors Award - who will challenge DAC delegates to think deeply about the financial advisory services of the future.

Bill Bishop, President of Bishop Communications, was a popular speaker at DAC 2014 thanks to his big ideas and outside-the-box thinking. He’s back again to motivate attendees to be 100 times more excited about their future “value hub”, by dreaming bigger about the potential of their business to grow within a disrupted marketplace.

Alan Rowell, MFATM, DFA-Tax Services SpecialistTM and President of The Accounting Place, shares strategic manoeuvres that will impact your clients’ wealth for generations within today’s planning sweetspot:  retirement income layering.  But the twist he adds is significant:  tax efficiency!

To close out Day Two, top-rated DAC speaker Todd Hynes, Vice President with ivari, focuses on the challenge of new client acquisition in the insurance industry, and how to align industry practices with customer expectations, based on some surprising research.

DAY 3 THEME:  A NEW WORLD OF COMPLIANCE.   Being a Top Gun is all about high performance within more and more stringent regulation, and that’s the theme of day three at DAC. First up, Jeffrey Simpson, Global Affairs Columnist with The Globe and Mail, shares his insights on the controversial US presidential election, which will have been settled the night before.  How will the markets react?  How will your work be affected?  Will your clients’ risk tolerance levels be shaken?

Steve Wendel, Head of Behavioural Science at Morningstar, will take up the challenge as he explains how you can help clients improve their investment performance and reach their financial goals by avoiding bad financial behaviours in volatile times. And Shawn Brayman, CEO of PlanPlus, will explain what’s needed to close the gap in regulatory guidance, sharing his substantive research on risk profiling.

The last mimosa break of the conference is framed with pure motivational and energetic joy:  Caroline Ouellette, four-time gold medalist with the Canadian women’s national hockey team, and Craig Dowden, Ph. D. last year’s top-rated speaker, each will share dynamic presentations to help you execute and deliver on your peak performance capacity; one a 4 time Olympian whose team stole the show in Sochi; the other a prolific executive coach who will showcase how to practice core values, avoid burnout and reverse negative trends to build your strength for future success.

Acting as air traffic controller once again will be the ever-popular David Christianson, Master of Ceremonies for the three days of the conference. As always, he will entertain and inform while keeping the entire conference on track.
