Poll: Are You in Favour of the OAS Raise?

Beth Graddon

This year’s federal budget proposed a 10% increase in Old Age Security for seniors over the age of 75 starting in June 2022. Is this the right move? So far yes, according to Canadian financial professionals weighing in on KBR’s May poll.  But there appears to be a common concern:  extend the raise to everyone 65 or older.  Do you agree? Check out the comments below and weigh in:

Specifically, we asked “Are you in favour of the OAS raise of 10% in 2022 for those age 75 or older?”

Here are a few of the comments so far:

“I voted no, but not because I don’t think that seniors deserve an increase in their OAS, but because I think that ALL seniors need this. Not just those over 75.” – Lyle

“I believe it is the GIC that should be increased. And if increasing the OAS, it should be from the age of 65 as said by a few others, while the senior is still able to live on their own and enjoy life.” – Alice Manderson

“Why just 75, OAS starts at 65.” – Rob Fengler

“That is partial compensation for those of us who turned 65 and had to take OAS at the regular rate. Those who were given the opportunity to hold off for a few years will be receiving more than us for the rest of their lives.” – Virginia Hoover
