Be the Best you can Be and Be Recognized for it!

Terri Williams, CFP

Evelyn Jacks was pleased to introduce Lewis Kent, this year’s New Advisor Award winner at the Distinguished Advisor Conference 2021. His incredible and inspirational story, below.  And yes, the search is on for the 2022 winner, who will win a free registration and main stage speaking opportunity at DAC 2022 in Niagara Falls October 16-18.  Check out Lewis’ amazing story:

Lewis has been very involved in sports through his younger years. When he was 12, he learned a lesson from a coach that has guided him through every aspect of his life.  His coach advised him: “Be the best you can be.”

Lewis says he learned that you can’t focus on what you can’t control.  You can only focus on what you can do.  This has served him well.  He was just starting to grow his business when the pandemic hit.  He had decided to reach out to young medical students who really needed some financial advice.  He had hosted his first event for young doctors of the London, Ontario area when all events were shut down.  He had to pivot fast.

Not only could he not host events any longer, but his niche market – front line doctors – were swept into the chaos of dealing with a pandemic.  He decided to change his approach and to offer his clients and potential clients a collaborative team that would be able to handle all of the young doctor’s financial needs offering them peace of mind.

He actively engaged other professionals and introduced his services to his niche market via successful online events. He has now grown his business and is actively serving over 100 young medical clients in his area.

Lewis says mentorship has been key to his success.  He found a great mentor in a friend’s father – who helped him get into the business in the first place.  He encouraged all delegates to become mentors and help young advisors along.  “There is nothing more important than a good mentor who is willing to go above and beyond to help you,” he said.

Diamonds and Denim Gala celebrated success.  After the DAC Acuity 2021 New Advisor Award was handed out, delegates were entertained by dueling piano players Deuces Wild.  The duo got delegates singing and clapping along to classics like Sweet Caroline, Crocodile Rock and Margaritaville.  Many participants were thankful for the Zoom mute button so they could sing along without being shy (!)   Great fun was had by all after a fantastic day of networking and learning and celebration.
