Trusted Advisors: Help Clients Understand How Much Their Business Is Worth

As boomers start inching towards retirement, the conversation about business succession planning needs to be accelerated.  It’s a great opportunity to become your client’s most valuable source of thought leadership and information by helping your clients to understand how much their business is really worth.

“This is an extremely worthwhile course for anyone in business. The value of knowing what the process is and how important the factors involved are would help any business leader to recognize the need for sound financial succession planning. I really appreciated the rapid response rate for Student Support—someone there is really on their toes!” Frank B., BC

If your clients were looking for assistance with mergers, transfer of an ownership position, raising capital or sale of their business, initiating conversations about how to extract the most value and when, can in fact mean the difference between family wealth improvement or significant financial loss through to under-planning.   To make things more complicated, all the stakeholders-professional financial advisors and various family members-must be on the same strategic plan.

Knowledge Bureau’s Business Valuation for Advisors course is part of the MFA - Business Services Specialist designation program. This course is designed to help advisors and clients understand how a business is valued and an acceptable purchase price established.

This course will also help the student understand the notion of value and the relationship between business transactions and value. Students will learn how to differentiate between company-specific and market-based approaches to estimating value, as well as the strengths and limitations of these approaches; identify some situations that could impact value, including qualitative factors and market/industry developments; assist clients with the preparation stage of undertaking a business transaction, including corporate improvements to enhance value and “right time to sell” considerations; identify the key aspects of the negotiation and due diligence processes, as well as their relationship to value; and much more.

Professionals need to understand the key pitfalls of the closing and transition stage, including perspectives from all the stakeholders involved:  sellers and investors.  This course will not only provide you with these skillsets, but also show you how to relay the information to the client in crafting the best solution for them.
