The Bank of Canada Appoints New Governor
On May 2, 2013, the Bank of Canada announced that a new Governor of the Bank had been appointed under Section 9 of the Bank of Canada Act.
Effective June 3, Stephen S. Poloz will serve a seven-year term in the office, succeeding Mark Carney, who exits his post on June 1.
Mr. Polaz is a 57 year old native of Oshawa, Ontario who graduated from Queen’s University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Economics. Polaz then went on to obtain a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Economics from Western University in 1979 and 1982 respectively. He has been with the Bank since 1981 and has held increasingly senior positions throughout that time. He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Export Development Canada (EDC) in January 2011.
