Manitoba Financial Literacy Forum Celebrates Financial Literacy Month with New Website and Calendar

Winnipeg, MB; October 27, 2014 — November is Financial Literacy Month in Canada, and the Manitoba Financial Literacy Forum is helping Manitobans sharpen their money management skills with the launch of its new website and 2015 calendar, offering helpful tools and lessons to empower people across the province to make responsible financial decisions at every stage of their lives.

ManitobaFinancialLiteracy.com is the Forum’s new online resource that connects users to dozens of provincial and federal organizations that focus on financial literacy, from government agencies to private businesses, not-for-profit organizations to credit counselling services and volunteer groups. The website gathers financial literacy news, upcoming events and financial tools in one free, accessible location that’s available on desktops, mobile devices and tablets.

“Launching ManitobaFinancialLiteracy.com is a significant milestone in making financial education accessible for Manitobans,” says Evelyn Jacks, CEO of Knowledge Bureau and Co-Chair of the Manitoba Financial Literacy Forum. “People can easily find the incredible Made-in-Manitoba tools and resources developed by our province’s financial literacy leaders in one place, which help to build their skills and confidence when making decisions about money.”

Similarly, the Forum’s 2015 Money Matters: Financial Lessons for Life calendar promotes financial literacy learning all year long with tips on managing debt, saving for a home, talking to children about money and recognizing potential investment scams. This year’s calendar was created entirely with local models, designers and photographers, and more than 30,000 copies will be available for free at all Winnipeg Public Library branches and Assiniboine Credit Union locations, as well as numerous family and resource centres across Manitoba.

“The 2015 calendar highlights helpful learning resources for many important financial topics that are useful for people at any stage of life,” adds Ainsley Cunningham, Forum Co-Chair and Education and Communications Manager for The Manitoba Securities Commission.

The Manitoba Financial Literacy Forum is one of the province’s largest not-for-profit coalitions of organizations and individuals working to promote lifelong financial education and skills to Manitobans, represented by 36 provincial organizations that focus on financial literacy, with members representing stakeholders from the public, private, financial services, credit counselling, and voluntary sectors, as well as individuals, and families and labour organizations.
