Graduate in the News - Melanie Adams

We recently had the opportunity to speak to Melanie Adams about her experience taking Advising Family Business as part of her second designation with Knowledge Bureau. She previously earned her DFA – Tax Services Specialist™ designation and is now working toward her MFA™ - Business Services Specialist designation. Here’s what Melanie had to say: 

How would you tell your Knowledge Bureau story to a friend?

“The best part of the course was the succession map. It helped me start the process then, after that, the course laid everything out and made progressing simple and easy.”

Why did you decide to take a KB course?

“I already had my DFA-Tax Services Specialist™ Designation. Taking the course was the next step. It kept my brain sharp and enabled me to stay on top of industry changes.”

What did you find difficult?

“To be honest, I completely bombed the first two chapters. I had to change the way I approached things since I was used to a tax way of thinking.”

Did anything surprise you in the courses?

“It all made sense! At first I thought, ‘What is it going to help me with?’ but it all came together.”

What did your family think about the amount of time spent?

“My partner is taking her MBA so she laughed at me at first, but then we used our time spent learning as a way to encourage each other.”

Were you happy with the outcomes?

“I was happy with the course and the mark I got. I got something out of the course I could carry forward. Using real life experience of helping a client helped put the course’s materials into perspective.”

What are your future goals?

“Working on my MFA™ and building up my credentials.”

What is the glimpse of wisdom you can share with our readers?

“I’d say to learn the succession map and how it all goes together. Really learn and focus and look at where you can add value to your practice. KB’s course cemented in me how to do that.”
